Day in the Life of Dementia

Day in the Life of Dementia, Our 4th of July.

How exciting our 4th was. Brian and I went to Harrah's Casino for a BBQ and fireworks. The show was great. Nice people, and Brian enjoyed many Corona's with LIME.

We went back into the casino after the fireworks and decided to play a little 50 cent slots.....look what happened!!!

In 8 pulls, $1,800!! About 10 pulls later, another $1,200!! Then another $300 in a few more pulls. We ended up winning about $5,000. Maybe things are looking up. One can only hope.

Day in the Life of Dementia, Ode to Vince.

Hotty, Beefcake, ladder, climb the mountain, yes Vince has captures the heart of many. Maybe he'll drop by the stream and see us. Rumor has it he knows some streamers...personally!!

Birth name: Vincent Anthony Vaughn

Height: 6' 5" (1.96 m)

Mini biography

Vincent Anthony Vaughn was born on March 28, 1970, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA and raised in Lake Forest, Illinois, USA. His parents were Vernon Vaughn, a salesman, and Sharon Vaughn, a real-estate agent and stockbroker. They would later divorce in 1991. He also has two older sisters named Victoria and Valerie. Vince was interested in theater early on and grabbed a spot in a Chevy commercial. Figuring he was set, he packed his bags and headed for Hollywood only to become a struggling actor losing role after role. He managed to hit a few spots on television, but his real goal was to make it to the big screen. He made his first credited role in the film Rudy (1993) where he met friend Jon Favreau who was writing a script detailing his life as an out-of-work actor. Vince was written into Swingers (1996) by Jon to play the character of Trent. Vince signed on just as a favor to his buddy, not realizing it would be a career changing role. Though not a commercial success, it was a critical success in which Steven Spielberg saw him and cast him in the big budget sequel Lost World: Jurassic Park, The (1997). This role would give Vince the exposure he needed to become a movie star and for the first time choose the roles he wanted to take. _Cool Dry Place, A (1998)_ put him as a loving father, Return to Paradise (1998) cast him as a man having to make a life or death decision to save a friend, and Clay Pigeons (1998) cast him as an interesting serial killer. He even was cast as Norman Bates for the shot-for-shot remake of Pyscho (1998) . In 2000, he starred in The Cell (2000) opposite 'Jennifer Lopez' .

Day in the Life of Dementia, It's up to you.

As I think about the changes I am about to face in my life I have come to the conclusion we are all here for a reason. We all have something special and beautiful to offer the world. It's getting the motivation to start, find a passion, find a direction. Please take a 1 step in trying to improve the world. If we all gave 1 hour a week, the world would become a place of giving. It is contagious.

It's Up to You

One song can spark a moment,
One flower can wake the dream.
One tree can start a forest,
One bird can herald spring.

One smile begins a friendship,
One handclasp lifts a soul.
One star can guide a ship at sea,
One word can frame the goal.

One vote can change a nation,
One sunbeam lights a room,
One candle wipes out darkness
One laugh will conquer gloom.

One step must start each journey,
One word must start each prayer.
One hope will raise our spirits,
One touch can show you care.

One voice can speak with wisdom,
One heart can know what's true,
One life can make the difference,
You see, it's up to you.

I attend the Alzheimer's Memory walk every year. We raise money to educate the public and help to find a cure. We have several people who visit our facility. There is a group people who bring in their pets twice a month just for the therapeutic benefits. We have volunteers that visit to play cards or read. Make a phone call, you would be amazed at the lives you can touch, and your life will be touched as well.

Day in the Life of Dementia, Deep Thoughts

"The path to our destination is not a strait one. We go down the road, we get lost, we turn back. Maybe it doesn't matter which road we embark on. Maybe what matters is that we embark."

-Barbara Hall- Northern Exposure, Rosebud, 1993

Day in the Life of Dementia, I have to leave my peeps.

I sure hope my Administrator doesn't blog, she will be recieving this in the morning.

I, alznurse929, on this day June 22, 2006, have chosen to give my 30-day notice and will resign my position at this facility as of July 21, 2006.

I have been given many opportunities in this company. As I decided to move toward new personal goals, I found a way to do so without any financial help from the company and with minimal support. I am proud of that. I do not owe anyone anything.

I have been an extremely dedicated employee for over 16 years. I’m hoping my last six months is not the legacy I leave. I understand the role I took on January 1, 2006 was not a role I should have accepted. I thought about it long and hard and in my heart I thought it was best for my residents, family members, and staff. I did not consider the toll it would take on my spirit. I have seen the inner workings of a business and I am not that person. In the same breath, I will not be anything but proud for at least having the courage to try.

Thank you for the time and the memories. I will leave with a heavy heart but also a new perspective on who I am but more importantly, who I am not.

alznurse929

I have never been exposed to the ruthlessness of business people, I have never been made to feel so bad about myself as I have in the past six months. I will move on to different opportunities, still working with the elderly. I will be me again, someday.
